According to the agency, the northern region can expect morning thunderstorms on Monday, with rains over parts of Taraba, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Jigawa, and Kano states.
As the day progresses, the thunderstorms are expected to spread to other parts of the north, including Borno and Zamfara states. The North-central region will also experience morning thunderstorms with rains over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Nasarawa states. The agency predicts that the thunderstorms will intensify in the afternoon and evening hours, affecting parts of Plateau, Kogi, and Benue states.
In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere is expected, with morning rains over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states. The rains are expected to spread to other parts of the region later in the day, covering states such as Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Lagos, Delta, and Bayelsa.
The forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday follows a similar pattern, with thunderstorms and rains expected in various parts of the country. The agency has warned of strong winds that may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur and has advised the public to take necessary precautions.
To ensure safety, NiMet recommends securing loose objects, avoiding driving under heavy rain, and disconnecting electrical appliances from sockets. The agency also advises airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet.
As the thunderstorms and rains approach, the public is urged to exercise caution and stay safe. Visit the NiMet’s official website at www.nimet.gov.ng for ongoing weather  for the latest weather updates and forecasts.
