Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, widely known as Simi, is respectfully asking her fans to stop calling her daughter, Adejare, “Duduke.”
The affectionate nickname for her daughter emerged after Simi released her wildly popular hit song “Duduke” in 2020, a track deeply tied to her pregnancy journey. The emotional melody quickly captured hearts and became an anthem for expectant mothers everywhere. When she and her husband, fellow singer Adekunle Gold, welcomed Adejare in June 2020, fans naturally began associating the child with the beloved song.
However, in a recent conversation with VJ Adams, Simi gently clarified her discomfort with the nickname, shedding light on the true meaning behind the word. “People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name,” she explained. “It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat, duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum.”
Simi emphasized that “Duduke” was simply an onomatopoeic expression within the song, intended to convey the rhythm of her heartfelt emotions, rather than a name for her child. “Stop calling my child Duduke,” she said with a laugh, before adding, “But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react.”
