Kylian Mbappé is set to make his competitive debut for Real Madrid in their UEFA Super Cup match against Atalanta on Wednesday, as confirmed by coach Carlo Ancelotti. However, Ancelotti did not reveal whether the star forward will start the match.
Mbappé, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last month, signed a five-year contract with the European and Spanish champions. The 25-year-old, who joined his new teammates for preseason training last week after representing France at Euro 2024, is included in the squad for the Super Cup clash in Warsaw, Poland.
In his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti noted that Mbappé has integrated well with the squad. “Kylian has arrived in good shape, like the other players who haven’t had much time to train,” Ancelotti said. “He’s adapting well, and everyone in the squad could play tomorrow.”
Ancelotti humorously addressed the challenge of fitting all his stars into the lineup this season, with Mbappé competing for spots alongside Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, Endrick, Brahim Díaz, Arda Güler, and Jude Bellingham. “Choosing who to play has been a big problem this summer—it even ruined my holidays!” Ancelotti joked. “We have a lot of games ahead, and it’s crucial that those who play less contribute significantly, as they did last season.”
