Lagos, Nigeria – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) officially welcomed its 61st president, Haruna Yahaya, at a vibrant investiture ceremony held on Tuesday at the Institute’s Lagos head office. The event marked a significant transition as Yahaya formally assumed the leadership reins, ready to guide ICAN through its next phase.
Yahaya steps into the role previously held by Davidson Alaribe, whose impactful tenure was highlighted by a significant expansion of ICAN’s reach across Nigeria. In his farewell address, Alaribe proudly reported the establishment of 26 new District Societies during his time, with 24 of these already officially inaugurated.
The investiture drew a distinguished gathering of guests, underscoring the importance of the occasion. Representing Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was the state’s Accountant-General, Dr. Abiodun Muritala. The Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Aminu Usman, and the state’s Attorney General, Abdulqadir Fanini, were also in attendance. Further demonstrating the breadth of support were notable figures from various professional bodies, including Dr. Rabiu Olowo, Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria; Zuwaira Kishimi, President of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria; and Professor Pius Olanrewaju, President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
With the ceremonial transfer of leadership complete, all eyes are now on Haruna Yahaya as he embarks on his term, poised to steer the Institute’s affairs for the coming year.
