Desmond Elliot marked his 51st birthday with a moment of quiet reflection, choosing to honour the memories of colleagues who passed away rather than focus solely on celebrations.
The Nollywood actor and politician shared photos and a heartfelt message on his Instagram page, expressing gratitude for life while paying tribute to Bukky Coker, Gbenga Adenowo and Omolara Obatolu. He described the day as one dedicated to their memory, offering prayers for strength and comfort for their families during a difficult period.
Elliot spoke about approaching a new year with appreciation for the gift of life and the unwavering support of family and friends. He acknowledged God’s blessings and noted that memories of loved ones remain deeply cherished, even in moments of loss.
Beyond the birthday reflections, the actor’s public journey in recent years has been closely followed. In 2020, during the End SARS protests, his comments opposing the demonstrations sparked widespread criticism among young Nigerians. He later apologised in a televised interview, explaining that his remarks were made in an emotional moment and calling for understanding and unity instead of hostility.
Despite the apology, tensions lingered, particularly among youths in Surulere who felt dissatisfied with his performance as a lawmaker. Many backed an opposition candidate during the subsequent election, though Elliot retained his seat. In response to ongoing concerns, he later commissioned the installation of high-capacity transformers in the constituency as part of community development efforts.
As he steps into another year, Elliot’s birthday message struck a reflective tone, blending gratitude, remembrance and a renewed emphasis on compassion.
