Afrobeats sensation Davido recently defended his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, against a social media critic who questioned the governor’s religious identity. The controversy began when a video emerged showing Governor Adeleke dancing in a church while wearing a white soutane. A Twitter user, identified as Governor Ifedolapo Osun, expressed disappointment in Adeleke, suggesting that the Muslim community had been misled about his faith during the 2022 gubernatorial election.
The critic’s post read, “May God Forgive All Of Us Who sold Adeleke to Osun as a Muslim. Because, WTF,” accompanied by the viral video. Davido, known for his candid responses, quickly shut down the criticism in a tweet that has since been deleted. He revealed that Ifedolapo had been seeking his help for three years, asking for money and a job. Davido shared a screenshot to back his claim, showing a message from the critic requesting financial assistance to buy a motorcycle.
Davido accused the critic of turning against his family out of personal frustration, rather than any genuine political concern. He wrote, “Brother, stfu. You were in my DMs for 3 years begging for a job and money… As soon as you didn’t get your way… government position is not your birthright. You’re constantly here bashing me and my family! STOP IT.”
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who was elected in 2022, hails from a prominent political family. His late brother, Isiaka Adeleke, served as the second governor of Osun State from 1992 to 1993. The incident underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding Governor Adeleke’s leadership and the scrutiny he faces from various quarters.
