Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has finally addressed the public following her release from detention.
Reports emerged on Wednesday, January 28th, that Okorie was initially arrested at her Lagos residence by the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Centre in Abuja over allegations involving fellow actress Mercy Johnson. She was later released from Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State, only to be reportedly taken back by the FCT police on February 3rd after a petition was filed against her.
Actress Doris Ogala shared a video claiming the re-arrest was linked to unpaid legal fees owed to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who had assisted in securing Okorie’s bail in the ongoing case. Despite the rumors, Angela denied being rearrested.
Through her Instagram story, she reassured fans and family that she would address the situation personally and expressed gratitude for their support:
“I will speak to my fans and families tomorrow!! God bless each and every one of you who showed me love. You all are amazing. Thank you.”
The legal conflict traces back to a petition reportedly filed by Mercy Johnson, following online attacks and unverified claims made by Okorie in June, accusing Johnson of spiritual wrongdoing. Tensions were further inflamed by suggestions from movie producer Stanley Ontop, who hinted at high-profile involvement in the legal actions.
In a previous Instagram live, Angela clarified that she had not been arrested but merely invited for questioning. Over the years, she has publicly clashed with Johnson for undisclosed reasons but stated last year that she forgave the mother of four upon learning of her health struggles. At the same time, she advised Johnson to seek forgiveness from those she may have wronged and cautioned against misusing church teachings.
Angela’s feud with Mercy has a long history, including 2024 allegations against Johnson and her mother, which sparked intense online debates within Nollywood. Despite the controversies, Angela continues to engage directly with her supporters, using social media to set the record straight while offering prayers for her fans.
This recent statement marks her first public comment since the events, signaling her intent to connect with followers and clarify the situation on her own terms.
