Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, made a significant political move today, officially announcing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The declaration, made at the Government House in Uyo, the state capital, follows weeks of intense speculation and hints from the governor himself about his shifting allegiance.
Governor Eno revealed that his decision was the result of “three months of wide consultation” with key stakeholders across Akwa Ibom. He expressed sincere gratitude to the PDP for their support throughout his time in office, emphasizing that this transition was a necessary step towards what he termed a “progressive move” for the state.
A significant factor in his decision, according to Eno, is his deep admiration for President Bola Tinubu. The governor highlighted the critical need for Akwa Ibom State to align itself with the federal government to ensure a continuous flow of benefits and development for its citizens. He reassured the people of Akwa Ibom that his commitment to their well-being remains unwavering, regardless of his party affiliation.
“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC,” Governor Eno stated, underscoring his consultative approach to leadership.
His entry into the APC was formally recognized by a notable delegation of APC governors. Among those present to welcome him were the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; Bassey Otu of Cross River State; Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State; and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State. Also in attendance were Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, and Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, marking a grand reception for the new party member.
